#SaferToBeMe
Held in June 2023, as a partnership between ReportOUT and the University of Sunderland, #SaferToBeMe brought together a global audience of 100+ people to discuss the human rights, and development needs, of LGBTQI+ people.
Due to the success of #SaferT0BeMe, it has since led to developing a project to tackle the relationships between police forces and sexual and gender minorities globally. Read more here.

What was #SaferToBeMe?
On the 22nd June 2023 we hosted a global symposium at Hope Street Exchange in Sunderland, U.K., bringing together over 100+ people people from all over the world to discuss what is happening to the human rights, and development needs, of LGBTQI+ people. Before: Online Satellite Events
Before our main day symposium over a range of dates, we hosted a number of one hour-long online satellite events, where you can sit back and listen to activists and campaigners from around the globe, discussing LGBTQI+ human rights and development issues. The Main Day: Symposium
Our main day on the 22nd June! Hosted at the beautiful Hope Street Exchange building in Sunderland, U.K. We had a full day of face to face talks, workshops, and campaigns, to learn more about LGBTQI+ human rights and development needs. The Main Day:
Exhibitions and Campaigns
On the main day on the 22nd June, we also hosted interactive campaigns such as imagining a world without prejudice and discrimination, which formed our new poster campaign. We were also very excited to exhibit the global award-winning Flag in the Map exhibition of Pride placards from around the world! This was a partnership between ReportOUT and the Gilbert Baker Foundation. Want to hire our placards?
The Evening: Film and Panel
On the evening of the symposium on the 22nd June, we watched the powerful and award winning film, 'Flee.' Afterwards, we hosted a panel discussion to discuss issues faced by the human rights of LGBTQI+ refugees and people seeking asylum, with a panel talk. Read more about this here.
