Video panel discussion - 'Living In a Time of Hate: A Decade Of Nigerian Resilience'

Video panel discussion hosted by ReportOUT

It is a decade since the passing of the draconian Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act (SSMPA) in Nigeria which not only criminalises same-sex relationships but also bans gatherings or advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, fostering widespread discrimination, hate and fear. The law's impact extends beyond legal penalties, fueling social stigma, limiting access to healthcare and forcing many to live in secrecy.

Originally recorded on Instagram and Facebook Live on 3 February 2025, this panel conversation focuses on the lives and resilience of the queer Nigerian community, and the challenges they face when it comes to policy, law, healthcare and navigating spaces. Hear their thoughts about a future where the LGBTQ+ community in Nigeria can thrive, and not just survive.

Guest speakers include Miss Aliyah Baana Ibrahim (The Equality Pathway), Gab-Cliton Offor (Think Positive Live Positive Support Initiative), Mr Chizelu Emejulu (Minority Watch) and Mr Alimi Ayomide Oluwatobiloba (The Nexus Community).
