Questions and answers

Is #SaferToBeMe free?

It is! Tickets to all events, both face-to-face and online, are free. Though we do operate a 'pay what you can' model so if you can make a contribution to any of it, the money will go back to ReportOUT to help us to report, inform and defend the human rights of sexual and gender minorities.

Do you have any special deals for accommodation?

We do! The Holiday Inn in city centre Sunderland have offered a special 10% discount on room bookings if you use the code 'ReportOUT' when booking your hotel rooms.

Are the buildings accessible?

Yes, all University of Sunderland buildings are accessible. On the main day of the #SaferToBeMe Symposium at Hope Street Exchange, we also have a smaller quiet room for people who are neurodivergent and who may need to take some time out. Please ask at the reception for this. A room is also available for people who may need to breastfeed. Hope Street Exchange also has a mobile hearing loop. If you need this, please do tell us when booking tickets.

I cannot afford to get there to attend, do you have any scholarships?

We have very limited numbers of scholarships for some speakers and attendees, as we are running this event with a small budget. Please contact contactus@reportout.org to see if we have any available. Do not forget, we also have our online satellite events where you can join on Zoom from home, and for our main day Symposium you will also be able to join online via Zoom.

Are both the launch events and evening film and panel talk also able to be joined online?

Sadly not. We do not have the capacity to do this, and the film hosted online may breach copyright laws.

I need a letter of support for my visa to travel there, do you supply one?

We can! We have a letter which will cover your time at the Symposium. Please contact contactus@reportout.org for this.

Will there be opportunities for mixers and socials?

Yes! After the launch event and the night before the event, we hope to host an informal mixer for people to get to know each other. The launch event is a good place to start though, but a more informal mixer event will also be held the night before. We encourage people to make friends and networks at all of our events. This will be announced in our upcoming programme.

Is Sunderland easy to get to?

Northumberland Pride

Northumberland Pride serves the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender Plus (LGBT+) community living, working and visiting the County of Northumberland and beyond. Established in August 2017, our organisation was set up to raise awareness of LGBT+ culture and heritage. We achieve this by promoting equality and diversity for the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

In 2018 we held Northumberland’s first ever 7 days of pride which ended in a spectacular celebration of LGBT+ life at our main Pride Festival. Now in our fifth year we are seeing attendance figures increasing year on year to a staggering 10,000 members of the LGBT+ community, our allies, companies and local communities attend our events. Our journey has continued to evolve and we now support the community 365 days a year by offering specific support services to the community and reach a further 12,000 people through the delivery of our services.

What makes us different?

Typically, most people associate ‘Pride’ organisations with a one-off Pride Festival and whilst this is an important part of our delivery, we are so much more than a one-day festival. We support LGBT+ communities across the county 365 days a year, many of whom are at a disadvantage to accessing LGBT+ support services due to the lack of provision over the vast and rural area of Northumberland.

We support these vulnerable LGBT+ people with domestic abuse and sexual violence, financial inclusion, one to one counselling, community integration, victims of crime, sexual health advice, physical activity, social isolation, educational skills and a wide range of mental health & wellbeing issues.
