About Us

Who are ReportOUT?

ReportOUT is a global SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) human rights organisation based in Gateshead, United Kingdom. Established in 2019, with a team of passionate and committed volunteers and Trustees, both national and international, we research, monitor and document the lived experiences of SOGI people through using our global network of state based and grassroots organisations. We do not use traditional LGBTQI+ identity politics and we have a firm ideology that a human rights standpoint is important to advance social change.

ReportOUT mission statement

ReportOUT is a human rights research organisation that documents the lived experiences of SOGI people and communities in different nations across the globe. We use our research to inform the public, educate others and to campaign about SOGI human rights infringements and lived experiences.

What do we do? (Our 'objects')

To promote human rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations conventions and declarations) throughout the world in particular but not exclusively of SOGI people (SOGI: sexual orientation and gender identity) by all or any of the following means:

A) eliminating infringements of human rights;

B) research into human rights issues;

C) raising awareness of human rights issues;

D) educating the public about human rights;

E) monitoring abuses of human rights;

F) international advocacy of human rights;

G) providing technical advice to government and others on human rights matters.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (2015)

As well as the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, ReportOUT also support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which were signed by 193 nation states. We recognise that SOGI people have traditionally been left out of international development schemes and have not had the global presence of other minority groups, so we are invested in changing this representation. At ReportOUT, we recognise the importance of all of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as impacting on SOGI people, but in particular we recognise those goals that most affect SOGI people, such as:

Number 5: Gender Equality

5.1 End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere;

5.2 Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation;

5.C Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

Number 10: Reduce Inequality

10.2 By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status;

10.3 Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard.

Number 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

16.1 Significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere;

16.3 Promote the rule of law at the national and international levels and ensure equal access to justice for all;

16.10 Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements;

16.B Promote and enforce non-discriminatory laws and policies for sustainable development.
